Prompt thought of the week:

The disciples must have been excited and terrified all at once. The entrance into Jerusalem for Passover week had turned into a big deal. How would Jesus be received, by the people and by the authorities? And an entrance can define perception! Surely they would make as big a splash of confidence as possible. And then Jesus asks for a donkey. “A…donkey?!” Once again, Jesus demonstrates a love for peace and a love for common people by creating an entrance that proclaimed the power of God’s “kin-dom of heaven,” not Herod’s kingdom of oppression. Looking for love? Keep your eyes out for it in unexpected places.

As a young, single woman who grew up in the Midwest, I arrived in Los Angeles to join a girlfriend who came before me and begin my nursing career.  My job search led me to work in a medical office on the 10th floor of a highrise office building.  Lloyd’s  Bank had a branch in the first floor of the building.

Soon, I decided to buy a new car and the bank teller referred me to speak with the loan officer at his desk in the lobby.  He helped me complete the paperwork and as I was leaving, he mentioned he would need to have a ride in the new car (I thought that was the final process in getting the loan).

A few days later, I picked up my new car at the dealership and stopped to mention to him that I had gotten it and he suggested we go for that quick ride in it that afternoon.  I asked him to drive it since I was still a bit nervous about the new car.    We drove off together and that was the beginning of a wonderful lifetime with him!  I got the car in March, we were married in July, and had 45 years of marriage before he passed away – What an unexpected outcome I will always treasure!
