“The Companion, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I told you.”
God knows I need constant reminders and reminding of what Jesus would have me do and who I should be to live His teachings out in my life and in the world. Heaven also knows (and so do I) that I’m a person who is quick to take things in as they happen and want to react. So it’s very important for me to spend time daily in devotions, prayer and calling upon the “Holy Spirit” who informs me and reminds me who I am and whose I am. Sometimes the answers are whispers; sometimes they are a swift kick in the pants.
There’s a lovely prayer I’ve memorized that begins with the phrase, “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the heart(s) of your faithful….” This is the prayer I use to invite the presence of God’s “Companion” to be present to teach me. And some days, it’s on my lips a LOT!
I was pulled into a flurry of email misunderstandings, (never a good way to communicate), and it was disconcerting that people chimed in with misinformation and remarks. Praying the words repeatedly, “Come, Holy Spirit…”, the answers came. A good friend called to ask me out for tea; another friend called to talk about music; another friend messaged me about the passing of her mother. All of these ‘little’ things added up to a higher perspective and a reminder to get out of the downward email spiral. Coincidence? No. I believe it was answers to “Come, Holy Spirit…” Simple, yes! Easy – not always!
I thank God for the prayer and the Holy Spirit Companion.
