Shattered – Matthew 11: 28-30
In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus tells us that God is willing to share our burdens if they become too heavy to bare. What a gift we have been given if we choose to take advantage of it! He is offering rest from worries, without any guilt about burdening another. God promises that whatever we give him to carry for us will not be too much for him. I will never forget the day that I used that gift for the first time. As the mother of three small children and the wife of a very, very busy man, I became overwhelmed and was having trouble coping. I didn’t want to burden my husband with the small things that I felt I should be able to handle, but when the number of small things hit a critical mass, I found it paralyzed me. I was trying to choose a pair of earrings for my sister-in-laws birthday when I started to feel sweaty and dizzy. I ran from the store and just sat in my car, wondering what to do or where to go from there. As I sat and thought, I remembered the above passage from Matthew. As soon as I prayed to God to take some of the worry off of my shoulders I felt calmer and was able to drive home. I have used this gift many times over the years, to help me when I am weary and feel that I am carrying more weight than I can handle.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your willingness to share our burdens in order to give us the rest we so desperately need. It is a true gift and a blessing. Amen.
