Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16

Faith – – faith.  Because of Abram’s faith at the age of 99, God makes a covenant with him and guarantees to make him and his descendants into a mighty nation. God changes his name from Abram, exalted father, to Abraham, father of many.  Then God adds that he will bless his wife, Sarai, and she will give Abraham a son. Her name changes from Sarai to Sarah, which means princess. Sarah will become mother of many nations and Kings will be among her descendants.

FAITH:  What is faith?  How did Abraham show his faith to God?  Was Abraham’s faith always there or was it a journey, a lifelong spiritual journey?  Questions, questions.  How does this apply to us?  What is our faith?  How does God see our faith?  It is said that with every prayer we are changed.  As our relationship with God grows, our faith expands.  It is our continuing spiritual journey in faith.

GPS Questions:

To mark a new identity, role or mission, God would often give them a new name: Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, Jacob became Israel, Peter became Cephas. As you’ve grown into your new identity from engaging in your God-given purpose, what is your new name? Isn’t this the result of the process that Jesus described to Nicodemus in the Gospel of John when he said “You must be born from above (born again)?”
