Reflection: Nov 23, 2020

Juliane Poirier Pastor's Corner

Christmas Eve, when we turn off the lights in the sanctuary and in the glow of candlelight sing, “Silent Night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright…” I’m a shepherd at the manger, I’m an angel in the sky, I’m one of the magi: I’m at the first Christmas. We sing the words as a prayer, midnight tiredness dissipates, and joy overflows.

This year will be different. We can’t come together to celebrate this holy season, so our creative Worship Team has designed “Advent in a Bag” to be delivered to every church household in the Napa Valley.  Included in “Advent in a Bag” are supplies to make your own Advent wreath, a reading and prayer for each Sunday of Advent, an Advent calendar, and chocolate.

We need drivers to deliver “Advent in a Bag” so please email me or call the church office (Dianne Mahler is on vacation so don’t email her) ifyou can to help deliver some seasonal joy to church (and other) friends and neighbors.

Thursday is Thanksgiving and there’s much to be thankful for. At our annual Charge Conference last week, we highlighted for our District Superintendent Shinya Goto, some of what we are thankful for. On Thanksgiving Day, let’s remember to thank God for our church. This year is different, but we are still the people who “love God with all our passion and prayer and intelligence” and who “love others as well as we love ourselves.” We are still the church. Thank You, God!

In faith, Marylee
