There is a sign in the church office that says “Faith is not knowing what the future holds but knowing who holds the future.” For me, that’s just too simplistic. For me, faith is a knowing. It lives deep within your soul. It’s palpable. You can feel its presence. Even as a child I could feel it, although I wouldn’t have been able to describe it. At a very young age after my mother died I remember feeling that everything was going to be okay, that I didn’t have to worry, that there was something bigger than I. It felt like love and it felt like protection.
Through the years several things have happened, including a terminal cancer diagnosis; however my faith in God has never been shaken because I’ve known that I didn’t have to worry about me. During a “Companions in Christ” study the material talked about being “a beloved child of God.” I have faith that we are, all of us, beloved children of God, and it strengthens me each day and enables me to live in gratitude. Faith resides in us and we are blessed.
