Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22. We will celebrate Easter Sunday on April 8th. For the Lenten days in between February 22nd and April 8th, writers from our church family have given us thoughts to ponder as we read the scripture passages each day. In the days to come, their thoughts will fill the posts below.
This year, we have combined our Lenten Devotions with our daily GPS (Grow, Pray, Study) which are usually found in our weekly church bulletin. In using this booklet daily through our season of Lent, you have the opportunity each day to
- read the scripture,
- reflect on its meaning in your own life,
- read the devotion, and then
- answer the GPS questions and thoughts for that day provided by our own Pastor Lee Neish.
Our theme for Lent this year is related to our All Church Lenten Book Study based on the book If the Church Were Christian: Rediscovering the Values of Jesus, by Philip Gulley. Everyone is invited to purchase the book and either follow along, or better yet, join one of the many book study small groups. During Lent, we will be looking at the following themes from week to week as follows:
Feb 22-March 3 If the Church Were Christian…Jesus would be a model for living rather than an object of worship
March 4-March 10 If the Church Were Christian…Affirming our potential would be more important than condemning our brokenness
March 11-March 17 If the Church Were Christian…Reconciliation would be values over judgement
March 18-March 24 If the Church Were Christian…Gracious behavior would be more important than right belief
March 25-March 31 If the Church Were Christian…Encouraging personal exploration would be more important than communal uniformity
