Between Lost and Found
Meditation: When I was in the worst struggle of my life, my pastor at the time reminded me of 2 Corinthians 1:4-6 –
‘He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.’ (NLT)
This verse has been particularly helpful to me when I am afraid to ask for help, or when I feel undeserving of comfort, or that my worries and concerns are not as important as someone else’s. Paul reminds us that we are not only comforted for our own benefit, but so that we may have the example, in word and action, to give that same comfort to our fellows when they are in need. For those of us who feel guilty or ashamed being the squeaky wheel in need of oil, Paul reminds us that we ALL benefit from the comfort of God when we ask for it. When we are comforted, it is our duty to pass along what we have experienced and learned of God’s love.
Prayer: Heavenly God, you know my heart and you know my failings. You know when I need your blessed comfort, even before I ask. Please pour your grace into my life today, that I may spread your mercy and love to my fellow creatures, as you have first loved me. Amen
