Between Faith and Works
What would you do if you found out you were going to host Jesus at your house? To be honest, most of us would scurry around making sure everything was clean and in order. Oh…and don’t forget that perfect dish of yumminess! I have a lot of Martha in me.
Mary, on the other hand, is focused on Jesus and listening to His word. Yes, we need hard-working servants in the church like Martha. But we must also be learners like Mary. In our zeal to serve, sometimes we end up ignoring Jesus.
How can we intentionally create time in our lives to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to His teachings like Mary? We may wish to start scheduling a few minutes each day and then increase the minutes over time. His word provides us with wisdom we need for all of life’s decisions and directions. His word can’t be taken from us in these extreme times. It also remains long after our service is forgotten.
Prayer: Lord, help me to let nothing stand in the way of placing you first in my life. Amen
