One of my favorite places to stop and reflect is in my garden. No matter how busy my day has been watering pots or picking vegetables it gives me time for quiet thinking.
Gardens are full of amazing sites. I will never forget the time I found a beautiful and elegant green praying mantis on a tomato plant. I watched him for a long time and he seemed to be watching me as well. I gave up before he did and I have never seen another one.
Another amazing sight was watching a butterfly emerge from his cocoon. I had noticed the cocoon attached to a corn stalk weeks before but never dreamed that I would catch the moment when it would come out.
Who could doubt the existence of God in moments like these? Just the fact that you can plant a tiny seed and with care it will sprout into a healthy plant, is a miracle. When I think of all the blessings in my life, my garden is near the top of the list.
Prayer: Thank you God for the beauty and joy that a garden can offer and for all the wonderful surprises that come from exploring nature up close. Amen
