It is not always easy finding the way to go. I have been challenged around following directions my entire life. Even now with google maps and an app telling you to turn here, I may find myself saying,” is this 500 feet or is the next turn?” I’m pretty sure the direction app on my phone thinks I’m daft.
Recently a friend of mine who is also directionally challenged told me there is a diagnosis for this ailment. This directional disability is often referred to as directional dyslexia, spacial dyslexia or Developmental Topographical Disorientation or DTD; a severe chronic inability to navigate, understand directions, or distinguish left from right. It may cause anxiety, stress, etc. Is this because I am left handed? I don’t think so as two of my siblings and my husband were all left handed and they do not get lost repeatedly.
I have a friend on River Glen….which leads me to wonder is it River Terrace, I know it isn’t Riverside because that runs behind my house, oh my. However, I do find with repeated trips to the same places I improve and get more sure of myself. I will never get to Sacramento and head towards Lake Tahoe to get to Reno (that is the long way around) ! Thank goodness I have Jesus and Mary showing me the way to be a good person and to follow a healthy path.
From a very early age I knew I had to serve others in a particular way. I moved to California following a triptik (remember those)? I got lost a few times in the choices I made along the way. I am so fortunate to have found my way to the Methodist Church. It was a fairly direct route once I was looking, and I never feel lost when there.
Prayer: Dear God, please continue to help me navigate this world and make good decisions. And with your direction may I make worthy contributions to support peace, kindness and love. Amen
