My daughter gave me a card that says, “Excuse me, I’m feeling verklempt” and I wasn’t sure if it indicated her appreciation or uncertainty about me.
The word means overcome with emotion, which is what I think the psalmist was referring to when they wrote, “Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over”. It’s how many of us felt last Sunday at Kennedy Park where we gathered under a canopy of trees to sing, pray, play, Commune with God and each other, baptize Sam, welcome Greta into membership, and share a meal. Hearts overflowed with joy and gratitude to be God’s beloved United Methodist Church.

Many people helped make worship and the meal happen, including Pat and Don Hitchcock and the Worship Team, Wendy Camp, Steve Carnes, Bill Pramuk, Dennis, Leigh, Stephanie, Mark, and CeCe Andersen, Marlene Haas, Greta Steinbruner, Dottie Lee, Jannie Amoroso, Pat Parker, Keith Calara, and Sally Archambault.
My heart is still overflowing ~ so excuse me if I’m a little verklempt over the wondrous ways God shows up in bread and water ~ in music and prayer ~ and in all of us.
In faith,
Marylee
