Pray for Soft Hearts

Sally ArchambaultPastor's Blog

Dear God,

We are overwhelmed by the violence and brutality enacted by our administration and their minions. We are angry and frightened and wonder how to channel our compassion and rage in ways that will help our most vulnerable neighbors survive and all of us thrive. Sometimes it’s tempting to look away from so much pain, to ignore the evil being done, and to lapse into helpless despair. Jesus, You said that to follow You is to pick up our cross, to share in and redeem the suffering of the world with the power of love. We’re not sure we’re up to the task but the cries of the poor, excluded, and undocumented, are a cacophony we can’t ignore. Our inherited pioneer independence has failed us, and we now need to join together to create a world that values community and embraces diversity. We pray for soft hearts as we do the hard work of countering hate with love and apathy with action. We pray to be so filled with Your grace – so acquainted with Your kindness and mercy – that it spills over into desolate places and hope can grow again. Lord, listen to Your children praying ~

Love, Marylee

“Ever notice how the inner voice that says, ‘We are powerless. This will never work.’ gets louder when you feel alone? That’s because loneliness and isolation amplify despair. Community, partnership, and action are the antidote. Hope is a group project.” – Jamar Tisby
