Between Rest and Growth

So many things in our lives can fit into the topic of Rest and Growth. Deciduous trees go dormant at times of the year and grow at other times. Many plants have active Growing seasons, producing seeds that are effectively the Rest stage of those plants. We sleep so that our bodies can recover and our minds can process the day’s experiences, effectively both Rest and Growth simultaneously.  However, we spend most of our waking moments somewhere between Rest and Growth, which requires us to make conscious efforts to quiet our active minds and bodies so that we can be receptive to the peace that our Creator offers to us.

How do we do this in our ever accelerating and chaotic world?  Find that place where you feel at ease and comfortable with your surroundings.  A park, a stream, the ocean, a garden… any place that you feel the stresses of life subsiding.  Breathe, feel the air around you, hear the sounds that surround you, feel the vibrations of the earth, find the beauty that may at times elude you.  Open your heart. Breathe in the blessed love and peace our Creator gives us. Let your spirit Grow with the Spirit flowing into you.  Ahhh…..!!!!!!!!!

I personally find beauty every day. Sometimes it’s nature, sometimes witnessing a kind act, sometimes looking for the beauty but most often it just appears.  A sunset, a perfect flower, the brushstroke clouds, the gentle gliding of a hawk, many, many different things!!  It’s at these moments, sometimes only a brief Rest, that I feel wrapped in the warmth of our Creator’s love and feel my soul Grow with peace.

Prayer:  Please help me see the beauty of creation every day. Help me to see kindness and love that is present all around every day.  Help me to Rest my mind so that my soul can Grow with Your love and peace.  Amen
