Between Righteousness and Mercy
This Lenten series puts us in the midst of extremes, meeting God between what is sometimes a rock and a hard place. Zaccheus the greedy tax collector climbs a tree to get a better look at Jesus. Up a tree he’s between the cold hard ground and a higher place.
I try to live my life in the here and now — in the moment. That puts me between what has been and what is yet to come. At my age there is much more past than future. From that place in between I wonder how it is with me and God.
Some time ago I wrote a personal faith statement and like a scientific theory, I test it from time to time. It is holding.
MICHAEL’S STATEMENT OF FAITH
I believe that God and I have an understanding; that God has known me since before I was born and that when my earthly life is completed the great mystery of life and death will be revealed and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Theology, religion, and creeds are the imperfect human response to the reality of an ineffable, unknowable God.
God is love. And perhaps, love is God. I’m still working on that.
The Church is a community of God-seekers, whether they know that’s what they are or not.
Prayer: O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come; be thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home. Amen
