Between Faith and Works
When do you find yourself as a Martha and when do you find yourself as a Mary? I am drawn to being active; doing; a need to feel “productive” each day. Goodness knows there is much to be done even if one just looks no further than their own surroundings! And there is personal satisfaction when tasks are accomplished and the “to do” list gets shorter!
We are called to “be the hands and feet of Jesus” locally and globally which encompasses a whole other area of productivity. So the “Martha” side of me kicks in as I spend “busy” time on personal chores as well as being available to help others. Being receptive and finding ways and means to grow in my relationship with Jesus is the “Mary” side of my life.
Contemplation can happen in church, circle meetings, community gatherings, taking walks and last but certainly not least, sitting in quiet stillness (why is that so difficult to do?) listening for that small voice, being available to the “nudge” that motivates us in a specific direction…..or just being…. quietly….. openly…… receptive.
Prayer: Thank you God for the ability to be an instrument of your grace and peace. Help us to find ways to blend listening for divine wisdom and direction and serving others as we work towards building the relationships in our lives. Amen
